North Carolina hits all time high for unemployment

North Carolina's unemployment rate jumped to 10.7% in the last month, the highest it has been since records have been kept. The previous record was set at 10.2%, back in February 1983.

North Carolina has the sharpest increase in unemployment in the country. The state has seen a 5.5% increase in unemployment over the last twelve months.

Manufacturing saw the largest loss of jobs. North Carolina's prominent furniture industry is also seeing dramatic losses. 9,300 jobs have been lost in the furniture industry over the past year. The furniture industry is additionally being plagued by diminishing salaries, cuts in payroll, and outsourcing overseas.

Two industries have seen growth, health and education.
